A Butler Matrix is a passive analog beamforming network designed to feed phased array antenna systems and steer RF beams in predefined directions. It enables beam steering by providing precise phase and amplitude distribution to each antenna element, eliminating the need for mechanical antenna movement.

Phased array antennas are widely used in modern wireless communication systems, including 5G, Wi-Fi, satellite communications, and radar, to improve coverage, increase capacity, and enhance spectrum efficiency. By delivering the required phase relationships between antenna elements, a Butler Matrix generates multiple fixed beam patterns, allowing the antenna array to efficiently transmit or receive signals from different directions.
